Historians believe that it originally came from North Africa and was brought to Southern Spain with the Moors, where it became a popular beverage. A lot of spanish culture have adopted their own version of this drink

  1. Soak rice, cinnamon, and morro seeds sticks in water for at least 3 hours.
  2. Blend soaked rice mixture until smooth.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth.
  4. Sweeten with sugar and add vanilla extract and strawberry syrup to taste.
  5. Serve over ice.
Nicaraguan Cacao

Indigenous people made good use of the rich volcanic soils to grow beans, peppers, corn, cassava and cacao. According to legends Christopher Columbus had his first taste of cacao in Nicaragua, when a local chieftain invited him for a cup of cacao brew

  1. Blend toasted cacao nut, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and sugar in a blender until a smooth paste forms.
  2. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large pitcher. Use a spoon to press the mixture through the strainer, ensuring you extract as much of the liquid as possible.
  3. Stir in the remaining milk and give it a taste. Adjust sweetness accordingly, adding as much sugar as you’d like.
  4. Chill and serve.

Morir soñando “To die dreaming” is a popular beverage of the Dominican Republic which has made its way to other Caribbean and Latin American countries

  1. Mix milk and orange juice.
  2. Serve over ice!
Piña Colada
Piña Colada

The two most famous accounts come from two men in Puerto Rico, Ramon Monchito and Don Ramon Portas. Ramon Monchito is most often credited with the creation of the Piña Colada. Monchito concocted the drink while working as a bartender at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in 1954.

  1. Place 1 1/2 cups unsweetened frozen pineapple chunks and 1/4 cup ice in a blender.
  2. Pour 3/4 cup unsweetened pineapple juice and 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk over the top. Add 1 to 3 tablespoons brown sugar. Puree until smooth.
  3. Pour into glasses and garnish with fresh pineapple wedges and/or maraschino cherries.
  4. Enjoy!
